Demarcate the kind of filesystem (shared vs local vs HDFS vs S3) and the kind of file (CSV, etc) when showing the lineage.

Truist uses Informatica Power Center to process critical data elements (CDE) from different Applications relying on several technologies like Oracle, MSSQL, DB2 LUW, 2, Salesforce, Filesystem Db2 ZOS, Netezza.

Data Governance Stewards are using Manta Platform to scan and analyze these applications in Bank. Further to identify the source of origin holding these CDE’s and do impact analysis of the change on of these or all CDE’s if any.

Once the Data lineage is available in Manta the next step is to validate the lineage in Manta and also to verify the correctness of representation.

We Scanned few of the applications folders in Manta and majority of the Data flows are using source or target as File System (HDFS/Shared/S3) and there are files of type (CSV/XML) under those File System. Manta does not clearly call out what is the type of file system it is using and what is the underlying storage.

For an example one of the applications is using source as Oracle and Target as File System. So, once we validate the lineage of the Filesystem, we only see the filesystem not the underlying Storage type and what type of files are under those file system.

Business impact: Lineage that involves files system would be difficult to identify the Underlying storage of the File System.

Expected Outcome:

Manta should provide a way to separate between various different File System as a result would help the Data Governance Steward to understand the lineage.
