MySQL scanner should generate lineage Merged

Problem statement

Current version of Manta can scan metadata from MySQL databases, but it does not generate data lineage. According to IBM’s documentation, the MySQL scanner is still in its early stages (MVP), and only supports basic features like metadata extraction and dictionary mapping.

We have to discover key applications in IFPC ETL and SAS Grid that use MySQL as a source, including critical data elements (CDEs). While we plan to scan these MySQL sources, the current limitations prevent us from fully implementing this in production.

To support our data governance strategy, we need the ability in Manta to generate lineage and export MySQL lineage to Alation, allowing for smooth integration and better visibility across platforms.

Business impact

Without accurate lineage from MySQL, the data picture will be incomplete—especially for applications handling sensitive or regulatory data. This increases the risk of regulatory scrutiny and audit findings, as we won’t be able to demonstrate full traceability of critical data elements.
