Hi. So for 11.5.6 you should notice a difference for this scenario.
We have no plans to add another option to an already complicated RESTORE syntax (the same goes for MIRRORLOGPATH), instead what we have done is ensure the RESTORE does not fail.
We will detect such an issue with an invalid path, log it to the db2diag.log but allow RESTORE to complete. Afterwards, one can issue UPDATE DB CFG and set a new OVERFLOWLOGPATH (or MIRRORLOGPATH or NEWLOGPATH).
We will also be adding some text with examples to our documentation to cover some of the basic scenarios.
V11.5
Hi. Definitely understand the scenario, so thanks. What Db2 Version have you noticed this happening on?
I was restoring databaseTDB1 from server A into TDB2 and TDB3 on server B. OVERFLOWLOGPATH on TDB1 was set to /san00/overflowlopgath/TDB1/. The restore of TDB2 from the backup of TDB1 was successful. The restore of TDB3 from the backup of TDB1 ran all the way to the end (1.6TB backup) and failed after several hours with a very cryptic "invalid path" message that did not mention OVERFLOWLOGPATH.
The problem was that TDB2 had initialized the OVERFLOWLOGPATH directories with files and the subsequent restore of TDB3 abended becuase the OVERFLOWLOGPATH was already in use by another database (TDB2).
I suspect that if I did not have a /san00 LUN on the server I was restoring the database on there would be no way to restore the database as the OVERFLOWLOGPATH would fail to allocate and the restore would abend - again at the END of the restore after several hours.
The option to override the OVERFLOWLOGPATH on the restore as we can currently override the LOGFILEPATH via parms on the restore would be ideal.
And the restore should abend at the very beginning if OVERFLOWLOGPATH is going to be a problem.
Hi. Can you please provide a specific scenario that affected you and you would like to see an improvement in. From your description I cannot make out exactly what scenario affected you and I was not able to reproduce based on the info provided.
Thanks.
