This IDEA it to request a more dynamic management of PREFETCHSIZE when it is set to AUTOMATIC.
The documentation states:
"The database updates the prefetch size automatically whenever the number of containers in a table space changes (following successful execution of an ALTER TABLESPACE statement that adds or drops one or more containers). The prefetch size is also automatically updated at database startup."
ALTER TABLESPACE statement
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2/11.5?topic=statements-alter-tablespace
So, PREFETCHSIZE is changed just after the database is started up or after the containers are changed.
I have an environment with a daily growth of unread_prefetch_pages for tablespaces setup as automatic prefetch. On MON_GET_TABLESPACE, I can see the assigned value is over 1000. My suggestion is to have something similar as STMM for prefetching where DB2 can review the prefetch performance for those set as automatic and increase/decrease its value based on a hit/ratio to reduce the unread pages
