This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Rebuild BLU columnar dictionaries and recompress data in BLU columnar tables
An engineered capability is required to automatically rebuild an optimal BLU columnar compression dictionary and recompress BLU columnar tables.
A technique is needed to easily rebuild and recompress columnar tables like we have for adaptive compression (REORG... RESETDICTIONARY) which will not only build an optimal dictionary for tables as-is but will additionally allow for better stromg compression when adopting the new string compression enhancements delivered in the Db2 11.5 code stream.
While a manual recompression process is defined and described in a whitepaper, DBAs do not have the time to manually address the issue given the number of tables in many BLU columnar databases. Consequently, the issue of sub-optimal compression rates goes unaddressed since there is no way resolve the issue at scale and without a significant burden on DBAs.
