Allow parallel offline table reorg of range partitioned tables with non partitioned indexes (NPI)
Offline (classic) table reorgs might still be necessary in certain scenarios and can run for a very long time for huge tables (>24h). It is very hard to find a suitable window in a 24x7 System. Offline table reorgs - which have at least one non-partitioned index defined - still work single stream on very large tables, even if the data is range partitioned.
We are looking for a mechanism to parallelize offline table reorgs in a sense similiar to parallel SQL query execution ("INTRA PARALLEL"). We would like to ask IBM to implement parallel reorgs of the data partitions, which could be enabled via a Stored Procedure or a similiar knob.
The alternative to reorgs which is promoted by IBM - AdminMoveTable - has also certain challanges when it comes to static SQL (package dependencies) and ensuring table integrity.
