Please replace "password rules" by "password evaluations"

When installing GKLM, I am asked to provide a password for DB2, that contains 2 digits, a special, a minor and a major character. (This is not the case for GSKLM.)

I tell our customers about "quantum safe", long passwords and they are forced to drop characters like the "." (dot), which is even attached to the allowed special characters, but only meant as punctuation character there.

Use 2 or 3 more of all those characters and it will be as safe as with these annoying rules. It would be helpful to evaluate and display the strength of the password instead. Please also indicate when an entered character is not allowed. I guess, nobody would bother to follow one rule (minimum number of characters) even if restricted to a certain set.

[editing was not possible - this is the replacement text for the original sketched entry]

When installing DB2 for GKLM, I am asked to provide a password for DB2, that contains 2 digits, a special, an upper-case and a lower-case character. (This is only the case for the DB2 part, not for the GSKLM application part.)

I tell customers about "quantum safe", long passwords and using special characters. However, if there are only 6, 10 or 26 characters to choose from instead of everywhere out of 68, the number of possible and probable passwords shrinks. Briefly said: shaping passwords by rules implies a reduced variety to me.

I consider it a better solution (leading to less predictibale passwords) to force only
    -  a minimum number of 'symbols' from a fixed character set and
    -  to display the evaluated strength of the password instead.
    -  Immediate feedback
    -  near the field, where the password was entered,
would most likely support customer satisfaction, too.
