Implementing a DB2 HADR Cluster Solution on AWS with Route53 in Place of Overlay IP.

As outlined in the IBM technote, implementing a DB2 HADR cluster using Overlay IPs presents several constraints. The Overlay IP must be unique within the VPC and on-premises environments and must adhere to the private IP address range specified in RFC1918. In dynamic environments, obtaining an IP address from this range and facilitating application connections via a transit gateway can be challenging. Additionally, organizational limitations on IP address reservations can sometimes render this approach unfeasible.

To address these challenges, I propose using Route53 DNS records as an alternative to Overlay IPs. By integrating DNS records as resources within the Pacemaker cluster, we can ensure they consistently point to the master node (Primary node). This solution simplifies IP management and circumvents the limitations associated with Overlay IPs.

For failover/Failback, aws-vpc-route53 script will monitor this resource and update the DNS record entry.
