Support for Cluster Cloning with Alias Hostnames in Db2 High Availability Configurations

Customer would like to propose support for a cluster cloning procedure in Db2 environments where alias hostnames are used via /etc/hosts, without requiring reconfiguration through db2cm commands.
Currently, this approach is technically feasible but not officially supported, primarily due to the lack of validation mechanisms and infrastructure diagnostics. However, in certain customer environments—especially during DR setup or cloud migration—this method can significantly reduce operational overhead and downtime.

Key points:
The proposed procedure involves cloning the Db2 and Pacemaker installation, updating /etc/hosts and db2nodes.cfg, and reusing alias hostnames.
The goal is to avoid manual reconfiguration via db2cm, which may be time-consuming in large-scale environments.
Suggested prerequisites include:
-No VIP configured
-Matching VPC/routing between original and cloned hosts
-DNS resolution isolated within VPC
The current lack of support is due to the inability to validate these conditions without db2cm, and the complexity of diagnosing infrastructure-level issues.

Thank you for submitting this Idea. We have discussed this. A better approach would be to export cluster configurations from one and import to another using db2cm.
With this alternate approach, we have considered this request and it is not something we are able to deliver in the future. This is marked Not Under Consideration.

Thank you for shaping Db2 roadmap with your input.
