Pruning of recovery history file shouldn't block db2logw process

Hi IBM team,

We have an environment that generated a lof of archived logs.  We tried to perform DB Online backup every week but can't be completed due to various reason.  The platform has parameter AUTO_DEL_REC_OBJ set to ON with NUM_REC_RETENTION to 5

When the next Online backup was performed,  the pruning process didn't released the lock to db2hist.asc file roughly about 7 minutes, causing db2low not able to do the work.  On another platform it causing a longer lock causing application not able to access database and force the applications to create more connections, adding to the workload.

I forced HADR failover to the Principal Standby DB so application can connect to new Primary DB and service was restored.  I understand those processes are accessing the same file to maintain integrity, but for the large-scale pruning maybe this is something can be reviewed.

    Thanks for the idea. In 12.1.4 we introduced Asynchronous automatic recovery history file pruning.

    Automatic recovery history file pruning is now decoupled from the BACKUP command and is driven asynchronously by an engine dispatchable unit (EDU) called db2autoprune. This feature is enabled by default and can be controlled through the DB2_AUTOPRUNE_EDU registry variable. For more information, see Automating recovery history file pruning.

    As follow on work, we are looking to find ways to make pruning less intrusive. Please follow this Aha idea for progress in this area.
