Publish GPG signing key for RPM packages on ibm.com

With Db2 12.1.5 RPM-based installation was introduced. RPM tries to verify the integrity of an RPM based on a GPG signing key. Currently, this key is distributed through the .tar.gz file which also contains the RPM files.

The suggestion is to provide the signing key through a website where it can be independently downloaded and installed on Linux. This is a common practice.

This key should be universal for all IBM products that are shipped as RPMs so it has to be installed only once.

There are two arguments I see that are in favor of this:

  1. Security: Shipping a key with an artifact isn't secure. If the artifact was tampered with, why shouldn't the key? The key should be independently gathered from a trusted source (ibm.com).

  2. Ease of use: Instead of providing yet another tar file with the key if it can be downloaded using wget/curl and the likes, it makes installation easy and straight forward.

For air-gapped installations, the key can still be downloaded from there and transferred to the target system.

I hope this is being considered as a further enhancement to RPM-based installations.
