Hello, Our Db2 for z/OS SME has reviewed this Idea and provided the following information:
RUNSTATS SHRLEVEL CHANGE cannot update TOTALROWS in RTS because it is likely that the value will be incorrect due to application updates during the time RUNSTATS is executing. However, another requirement exists to ensure that TOTALROWS is maintained for RUNSTATS SHRLEVEL REFERENCE in both row and page sampling situations.
This requirement is being marked for future consideration as a result.

This has also annoyed me for decades. I discussed this with Dr Jim Teng once and he said "a variance of the count cannot be allowed" I contered with "But Jim, I think being + or - 10,000 is nothing in comparison to + or - 1,000,000!" That a SHRLEVEL REFERENCE does update the RTS just hurts even more! I have discussed this with Haakon Roberts as well... I can see no driving reason why a SHRLEVEL CHANGE runstats cannot update the TOTALROWS and TOTALENTRIES. Naturally it might not be 100% accurate, especially for the TOTALROWS if there is more than one table in the tablespace, but we are moving towards to PBGs these days. Please just let RUNSTATS do the update and we all, as well as REORG, will be much happier!
