FL505 REBIND phase-in for packages extended to include BIND Package ACTION(REPLACE)

Rebind phase-in is already useful. We have use cases typically for HOLD actions for 3rd party tools that tend to BIND Package ACTION(REPLACE) rather than REBIND existing packages. So we still have to find a quiet time, e.g. for QMF Binds Like the phase-in behaviour extended to include BIND PACKAGE ACTION(REPLACE)

    Hello Janet,

That's really useful for QMF 13.1. We should be moving to it next year.

    Thanks - Nic

Hello Nic, We are pleased to inform you that the QMF for TSO/CICS Version 13.1 product provided this function with the PTF for APAR PH56561.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS team

    Hello Janet,

I couldn't agree more. When we have control of the BINDs that is exactly what we do.

However our pain point is when dealing dealing with 3rd Part Tools such as IBMs QMG classic product we don't have control of the Bind jobs. When applying maint to QMF we run the QMF supplied BIND jobs which BIND:
    - mostly existing packages again
    - one or two new packages

So as I said we have to find or create a quiet time to do these Binds.
There are other 3rd party products that do likewise.

It's not appropriate (or feasible) to modify there 3rd party scripting as some of the Binds commands are generateed and executed at runtime.

    Thanks - Nic

Dear Nic, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. The Db2 for z/OS development team reviewed it and provided the following feedback:

When your applications do not change SQL, we recommend REBIND instead of BIND ACTION(REPLACE).

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
