Improved message text for DSNU537I

DSNU537I displays a page set which is not allowed in the list. As the utility can not know what the user intends to do, the text should be changed to a more general text without naming a pageset. Why:

1) Assume userA runs COPY with 4 objects, one object is one of the special catalog/directory objects which can not be included in a list. The user wants to copy the 3 normal objects. So the message could indicate the correct object.

2) Assume userb runs COPY with 4 objects, one object is one of the special catalog/directory objects which can not be included in a list. The user wants to copy the catalog/directory object. So the message could indicate the IN-correct object.

More details can be found in TS013718280, because the object which is displayed is not always the culprit, especially in case when more of the restircted page sets are included.

Therefore "could" is used in the above examples.

Changing the mesage text avoids ambiguity for the end-user.

Dear Peter, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. Our Db2 Utilities team reviewed it and provide the following feedback for you:

While development agrees the U537 message text does not clearly identify what the incompatible objects are, the message explanation offers the detailed explanation, and making an incompatible change to generalize the message text does not eliminate the need to reference the message explanation for corrective action.

Therefore, we will not be considering this idea.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

The Db2 for z/OS and Db2 Utilities Team
