Why is it useful?
Making the DB2 resync port secure will protect it from getting hacked or allowing unsecured connections to a port that could be used to serve data from the mainframe for nefarious purposes
beyond two-phase commit work.
Who would benefit from it?
All companies that are currently exposing their mainframes and the data it server to unsecured network connections.
How should it work?
DB2 for z/OS will have to be updated to allow for TLS connectivity to the DB2 Resync port. This can be done by altering DB2 for z/OS to perform System SSL calls directly or by allowing AT-TLS to secure the DB2 Resync port.
DB2 client functionality will have to be updated to allow for TLS connectivity to the DB2 Resync port. This can be done using standard TLS mechanisms on the platforms serving the DB2
client connectivity or in the DB2 client application itself.
