Workspace Db2 for z/OS
Created by Guest
Created on Jan 23, 2025

Provide one Db2 message to indicate that GRECP and LPL recovery is complete across a Db2 data sharing group.

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

We use automation to drive our disaster recovery processes to reduce the recovery time and remove human interaction. We have been running into issues with starting software products that require access to Db2 before it has completed GRECP and LPL recoveries.   When this happens, it requires manual intervention and slows down the recovery process.

We need is a Db2 message that would be issued after all LPL and GRECP recovery is complete during a group restart.

Dear Jeffrey, Thanks for submitting this enhancement request. Our Db2 for z/OS development team reviewed the requested enhancement and believe Db2 does not need a new message because Db2 already issues the DSNB317I message.

    • After restart, "DSNB317I NO OJBECTS IN GRECP STATUS", is issued if there are no objects in GRECP. If there were objects in GRECP, the DSNB317I is issued after all GRECP recovery have completed.

    • Similarly for the LPL status, "DSNB317I NO OBJECTS in LPL STATUS" is issued.

    • The DSNB317I message is issued on each Db2 member. As soon an one Db2 member issues the DSNB317I, it means no objects are in the specified status. There's no need to wait for all Db2 members to issue the DSNB317I.

Therefore, unfortunately we will not be considering this Aha! Idea.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS team
