Complete PROFILE support for SQL tuning ZPARMS

While modelling a production system it was noticed that the PROFILE support is not 100% up to date and compatible with the actual ZPARMs that the Db2 Optimizer uses. I opened a case TS019778440 and they said "Yes, it is missing, please open an AHA Idea" so here I am!

The ZPARMs for tuning/modelling a production system that are correctly supported are:

MAXRBLK maps to MAX_RIDBLOCKS and is OK

SJTABLES maps to MIN STAR JOIN TABLES and is OK

SRTPOOL maps to SORT POOL SIZE and is OK

NPGTHRSH maps to NPAGES THRESHOLD and is OK


Values slightly wrong are:

STARJOIN maps to STAR JOIN but the required numeric range 1 - 32768 is missing (This was the orginal thing that was noticed being missing)


Value completely missing are:

MAXSORT_IN_MEMORY is a numeric value from 1000 to the value of SRTPOOL

MXDTCACH is a numeric value from 0 to 512

PARAMDEG is a numeric value from 0 to 254

PARAMDEG_DPSI is DISABLE or a numeric value 0 to 254


It would be a very good indeed if we could get these into PROFILE support as soon as possible.

    Dear Roy,

    Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request. We have reviewed this request and believe it is a good candidate for the Db2 for z/OS product. However, it does not align within functionality prioritized for delivery within the next 12 months. Therefore, unfortunately, we will not be considering this idea at this time.

    We do plan to revisit this idea in the near future.

    We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
