Workspace Db2 for z/OS

My idea relates to a multiple IFCID 365 QLST data structure repeate group for an individual client TCP/IP address and multiple QLSTPRID, client protocol/product ID.

Hello,

As Db2 data processing paradigm is changing overtime, it focuses more nowadays towards DDF bound workload.

According to this changing data processing context, we need more and more robust Db2 instrumentation and observability infrastructure to monitor remote client performance and workload.

My idea relates to a multiple IFCID 365 QLST data structure record for an individual client TCP/IP address.

As one single TCP/IP Db2 client can use different communication protocols (jdbc vs HTTP/REST vs ODBC) and multiple client products, identified by QLSTPRID field, I think that it should be reflected in IFCID 365 data structure as different records in IFCID 365 repeating group for different QLSTPRID, instead of a single QLST structure repeating group for QLSTLOCN, TCP/IP address. In my view the repeating group should be keyed by concatenation of QLSTLOCN and QLSTPRID fields together to provide proper granularity, based on individual Db2 client product ID.

Currently all the QLST metrics are totalled with no breakdown on the individual protocol and Db2 client data product name.

In my opinion, it limits significantly the observability of DDF related workload and creates some confusion related to QLSTPRID field content itself. Currently, a single QLSTPRID field reflects the very first distributed client QLSTPRID product ID request to Db2 and persists throughout STATISTICS TRACE CLASS(7) session.

Additionally, I would like to see IFCID 365 become a part of SMF 100 record set rather than SMF 102 stream as this is essentially statistics data and it would help structure properly BATCH post processing Db2 instrumentation data for QLST records (both LOCAL and REMOTE).

I would appreciate your comments on this matter.

Regard,

Krzysztof Krajewski
