Enable Compression for Selected DSNDB06 Tables

There is currently a restriction that prevents table spaces within DSNDB06 from being compressed. It is worth reviewing whether this restriction remains necessary for the SYSUTILITIES, SYSOBJEVENTS, and Real-Time Statistics (RTS) History tables.

These tables can accumulate significant volumes of historical and operational data over time. Enabling compression for the associated Universal Table Spaces (UTS) would provide several benefits:

• Reduced storage consumption, allowing more efficient use of disk resources.

• Extended retention periods for utility history, object event history, and RTS historical data without increasing storage requirements.

• Improved support for trend analysis, reporting and data analytics, where retaining longer-term historical information can provide valuable operational insights.

• Enhanced scalability as the volume of utility execution and RTS data continues to grow in large Db2 environments.

Given the value of this historical information for audit, operational analysis, performance trending and capacity planning, allowing compression on these specific DSNDB06 tables would help customers retain more data while minimising storage overhead.

The key question is whether there is a technical requirement that necessitates the existing DSNDB06 compression restriction for these tables, or whether an exception could be made for SYSUTILITIES, SYSOBJEVENTS and RTS History objects to better support long-term data retention and analysis.
