That is a wonderful idea, having it under DB2 control can certainly reduce need to manually intervene with the stopping and starting an object space is preferable to me.
For example, putting the object in 'Advisory pending' mode after the Alter Using Stogroup still allows read and write activity, an Online Reorg can be run to complete Advisory warning. This negates the need to stop and start an object as this could be an online activity.
I have been converting range partitioned tables to use PAGENUM RELATIVE (note PAGENUM ABSOLUTE is deprecated)
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2-for-zos/13.0.0?topic=allocation-pbr-table-spaces-relative-page-numbering
Db2 forces us to use a stogroup with the EXTENDED Storage attribute when we apply PAGENUM RELATIVE.
That gives us a choice to either ALTER the objects to use a new Stogroup with Extended storage or ALTER the existing Stogroup to have extended storage and potentially reorg all objects that use the stogroup, so we don't end up with a mixture of extended storage and not.
