Enable/Disable Acceleration for Accelerator‑Only Tables (AOT)

Currently, Db2 Analytics Accelerator / Data Gate allows creating Accelerator‑Only Tables (AOTs) on multiple accelerators (via accelerator groups) for availability purposes. However, once defined, all AOT instances must be populated and maintained consistently across all accelerators, which introduces significant operational overhead.

Unlike accelerator-shadow tables, AOTs are not supported by SYSPROC.ACCEL_SET_TABLES_ACCELERATION, meaning there is currently no mechanism to temporarily disable or suspend their usage on specific accelerators. 

Enhance existing functionality (e.g. SYSPROC.ACCEL_SET_TABLES_ACCELERATION) or introduce a new interface to:

Allow ENABLE / DISABLE of AOT tables per accelerator

Possible behavior:

  • ENABLE → AOT is available for queries and DML on the selected accelerator
  • DISABLE → AOT is:
    • not accessible for queries
    • excluded from accelerator routing
    • not required to be populated/maintained

Use case:

 AOTs defined across multiple accelerators for HA:

  • Accelerator A → actively used and populated
  • Accelerator B → reserved for DR or future use

With this enhancement:

  • AOTs can be defined on both accelerators
  • AOTs remain disabled on Accelerator B
  • No need to continuously replicate data
  • AOTs can be enabled on demand (e.g. failover, maintenance)

    Thank you for this idea. Your scenario can mostly be addressed through the following options:

    1. In future: Requirement "Option to add an accelerator to a HA AOT group " (https://bigblue.aha.io/ideas/ideas/DB2AAZOS-I-325) is already considered for future implementation. With that being implemented you can create/populate an AOT just on an active accelerator and at a later point in time create/populate it on the second accelerator. For populating the AOT on the second accelerator the stored procedure ACCEL_COPY_TABLES (introduced in IDAA V8.1) can be used.

    2. After a table was populated on one accelerator use the stored procedure ACCEL_COPY_TABLES to populate the AOT on other accelerators. This way you don't have to I/U/D an AOT on multiple accelerators.


    Please note, that these 2 options only work if the first accelerator is still up and running. After a complete shutdown these options cannot be used.
    Since these 2 options are available as workarounds to easily populate HA AOTs on multiple accelerators (at different times), this requirement is set to 'Not under consideration'. We appreciate you taking the time to share it.
