Parameter for RECOVER utility to avoid invalidation of RTS-information

We would like a parameter (e.g. KEEP_RTS) for the RECOVER utility to indicate that real-time statistics should not be set to NULL.

After a RECOVER we need to run a REBUILD of any indexes that have not been recovered, and the REBUILD utility uses RTS information to estimate the amount of sortwork to allocate. When no information is available, Db2 will normally make too small an estimate for large tables and the REBUILD utility will fail.

In most cases a RECOVER will result in roughly the same number of rows in the table, and it is far more important not to have to run RUNSTATS in order to get the indexes rebuilt, especially for large tables.

The parameter should be available for both normal recover and redirected recover. (In the case of redirected recover we copy the RTS-information from the original tables prior to the recover)

Dear Kirsten, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. Development acknowledged the issue with RTS invalidation after a PIT recovery is completed, but there is no intention on providing a user control to bypass the required RTS invalidation. As many Db2 operations rely on the accuracy of RTS for proper execution, a misuse of this proposed option can result in other undesirable behaviors within and outside of Db2.

Therefore, we will not be considering this idea.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 Utilities team
