Support or warn of null (linklisted) DB2 STEPLIB and RUNLIB

DB2 Admin Tool customization via IBM TCz (IBM Tools Customizer for z/OS) requires the user to specify both the ‘DB2 load libraries’ and the ‘DB2 run library’ for each DB2 subsystem.

There is no 'option' to specify:

1) A single set of libraries for a site.

2) Omit the libraries for sites that include them in the system linklist (for ease of DB2 maintenance and usage).

3) A single library combining both DB2 and RUNLIB members (for ease of use).

If the user assumes support for linklisted and/or combined libraries and omits one or more of the libraries, TCZ generates STEPLIB DD statements with null DSNAMES - leading to JCL errors in multiple jobs.

As a result, TCz customization does not easily support the following common practices:

1) Common library names for DB2 data sharing groups.

2) Common library names for site LPARs.

TCz customization should:

  1. Support a single product-specific location for specifying both common DB2 load libraries and a common DB2 run library for a site (as it does for other site-common values).

  2. Omit the STEPLIB DD statements for those sites or subsystems that omit values for either set of libraries.

This issue was first identified in IBM defect case, 'DB2 AT - Null DB2 STEPLIB if linklisted RUNLIB / LOADLIB omitted - Case TS009295623.
