Compare objects between separated environments

We use Admin Tool and CM batch extensively when migrating object changes from one environment to another. In most cases it works well to do it using DDF or generating the DDL from source and compare that to target. We have one case though where it does not work as good as we like it to.

Our development and production environments are strictly separated. We cannot connect between them in any way and we have separate installations of Admin Tool in them. The only way for us is to use FTP. That means that when we migrate a change from the QA Db2 to Prod Db2 we have to do this in several steps:

  1. Generate the DDL from source in Dev

  2. FTP the output DDL to Prod

  3. Do the compare in Prod using CM batch

  4. Perform the change using CM batch

One other possible way would be to have an application running on another platform and give that permission to access both Dev and Prod.

It would be great if Admin Tool could solve this problem for us and also for Db2 CI/CD Expert. We are far from the only company that have a strict separation between Dev and Prod.

This has become more urgent now as we have to replace our old home-grown solution either with Db2 CI/CD Expert or a new home-grown solution based on CM batch.
