Making Historical Intervals accurate

At TOM there is some very useful views for Historical.
And there is a way to create/alter sampling intervals and customer wants to choose 1 minute intervals as the most detailed view.
This makes sense in the development where the price to pay is worth considering the benefits achieved. For sure not a good ideia at production, but customer is aware of that.
But here is the problem.
When customer selects 1 minute interval, TOM accepts that without any complains or warning.
But data is retrieved from DDS (GPMSERVE) and interval for DDS is set at 5 minute interval, without being possible to change to 1 minute.

The resulting view in this case is (CRAZY) 5 times the very same data.
The view in this case is almost useless, uses 5 times more space, and when someone uses a batch job to build some statistics modeling there is not trusted data.

Suggestion in this case:
1 - Forbids selecting 1 minute interval when that is not possible.
2 - Avoid recording repeated 5 times (in this case) same data.
3 - Makes possible DDS interval less than 5 minute, and warns customer about the impact.

Thank you for submitting this OMEGAMON XE for Db2 Performance Expert for z/OS enhancement request.

We did quite a bit of research and evaluated each proposed option. We agree that the current situation is not the optimal process and a bit crazy. However after reviewing this request with multiple technical leads we will not be changing the existing system behavior. We will update the documentation to make it clear that when the RMF interval is set to 5 minutes that setting the OMEGAMON interval to 1 minute will not provide 1 minute intervals of RMF data.

The challenge is that when OMEGAMON is collecting data from the internal tables for reporting it does not determine where the data is coming from. Which is why you are getting multiple RMF records. The configuration for setting intervals is set in several places there is no way to cross check when the settings are updated. We did consider adding additional logic to store the current data and compare it and ignore duplicates however the additional CPU costs of doing this operation would be very expensive and a higher than necessary ongoing cost to every customer.

After giving the request a comprehensive review, we have determined that we cannot include it as a candidate in an upcoming deliverable because it would adversely impact a large number of our clients. Consequently, we will not be implementing this request.

We appreciate your input to the OMEGAMON XE for Db2 Performance Expert for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of OMEGAMON XE for Db2 Performance Expert for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

OMEGAMON XE for Db2 Performance Expert for z/OS Team
