Parameter to govern "drop LOB tablespace" when dropping base table

When dropping a table using Db2Admin, it should be possible to ensure that any related LOB tablespaces will be dropped as well. This could be done via a new parameter.

An explicitly defined LOB tablespaces does not get dropped by Db2 when the base tables is dropped. Neither does Db2Admin drop it when using parameter KEEPTARGET=’Y’. We always use this parameter for security reasons.

This gives us two challenges:

  • When archiving old tables out and dropping them, we are left with a number of empty LOB tablespaces. Because of this we have to have regular checks to see if there are empty tablespaces on our system and then remove them manually.
  • When making a change to a table that requires drop/create, the LOB tablespaces is not dropped in between. When loading the rows in again there is actually still data in the “empty” tablespace - which is inaccessible but still takes up space and gives odd results in check utilities.

We opened PMR 61544,040,678 against Db2 for this problem, and PMR 61771,040,678 against Db2Admin.
