IBM Data Platform Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data Platform organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Expose Data Gate Table Replication Status in Db2 LUW Catalog and/or Administrative Views

Applications using IBM Db2 Data Gate typically connect directly to the target Db2 LUW database and do not maintain connectivity to the source Db2 for z/OS system.

Currently, table-level replication metadata is available through Data Gate APIs and Db2 for z/OS stored procedures such as SYSPROC.ACCEL_GET_TABLES_INFO and SYSPROC.ACCEL_GET_TABLES_DETAILS. However, applications connected exclusively to Db2 LUW cannot access this information through standard Db2 objects.

As a result, applications cannot easily determine whether replicated tables are fully loaded, actively replicating, delayed, in error state, or undergoing maintenance operations without relying on external product APIs or additional source-system connectivity.

This creates an architectural gap because the data consumer is connected to Db2 LUW, while the operational status of the replicated data is only available outside the database environment being consumed.

Providing replication metadata directly within Db2 LUW would enable applications, monitoring tools, operational dashboards, data pipelines, and self-service platforms to consume replication status information using standard SQL queries.

Typical use cases include:

  • Verifying if initial table loads have completed before executing business workloads.
  • Monitoring replication health without requiring external API calls.
  • Identifying tables in error or degraded replication state.
  • Tracking the last successful load and replication timestamps.
  • Building operational dashboards directly from Db2 LUW.
  • Integrating replication status checks into ETL, analytics, and application workflows.
  • Simplifying Data Gate adoption by reducing dependencies on Data Gate-specific APIs and Db2 for z/OS connectivity.

The exposed metadata could include the same or similar information from SYSPROC.ACCEL_GET_TABLES_INFO and SYSPROC.ACCEL_GET_TABLES_DETAILS. The information could internally leverage the same metadata already consumed by the Data Gate UI and Table Management APIs, but make it available through standard Db2 LUW SQL interfaces.
