The current IMS log reader VTS contention behavior needs to be improved. Contention occurs when the IMS log reader attempts to access an archive log on virtual or real tape that is currently being accessed by another address space.
During change stream activation if this kind of contention is detected the stream is deactivated resulting in replication stopping in error for the subscription(s) that caused the stream to be activated in the first place.
During normal log reading operations when VTS contention is detected the software attempts to re-allocate the file ten times before reporting the stream in error. This retry process typically takes less than one minute to complete which is not long enough.
