So far in dmctop we have delivered the following:
Monitoring Table movement (under "Other Table Movement" tab)
Monitoring Reorg (under "Other - REORG" tab)
We'll try to address "Roll Forward" in dmctop 1.0.4
Hi Andres,
Thanks a lot for the info - I reviewed this with the engineering team. We understand the request and will consider it for one of the upcoming releases of dmctop.
Best reagards,
Maryia
Hi Maryia,
I propose something to monitor the progress of tools in Db2. For example, to monitor a LOAD, one run LOAD QUERY TABLE to see which phase is running, or how many rows have been inserted. However, to see the progress once uses the watch command from linux, and that could be easily integrated into another tool.
A similar thing happens with tables being moved, to see which phase (Init, Copy, Replay, Swap,Cleanup) they currently are one run several time a query like this:
SELECT VARCHAR(TABSCHEMA,12) SCHEMA, VARCHAR(TABNAME,48) TABLE, KEY, VARCHAR(SUBSTR(VALUE, 1, 50), 50) VALUE FROM SYSTOOLS.ADMIN_MOVE_TABLE WHERE (KEY = 'STATUS' AND VALUE <> 'COMPLETE') OR (KEY = 'LOCK') ORDER BY SCHEMA, TABLE
Or
SELECT SEM_NAME, VALUE, varchar(TABSCHEMA, 12) SCHEMA, varchar(TABNAME, 48) TABLE from SYSTOOLS.OTM_SEMAPHORE_TABLE"
(Taken from my blog - https://angocadb2.blogspot.com/2014/06/monitor-adminmovetable.html)
The progress of a roll forward the command is ROLLFORWARD QUERY STATUS, and it is executed consecutively to see the progress.
Similar thing for the reorg.
If the dmctop integrates these monitors, it is easily to see what is happening in a database.
I will add another one, when logs are retrieved one has to check the db2diag to see which file is looking for, and check the VENDOR tool to see if the "tape" is mounted. Instead, by viewing a the queue of requested logs, one can see how files will be retrieved, and see the progress.
Hi Andres,
Can you please provide more details on the use cases for these requirements?
Thank you!
Maryia
