We are preparing to license DVM software and implement it across our production systems starting mid-March 2021. Applications are planning initial use of DVM in production starting the end of March 2021 with a full production rollout in June 2021. To use DVM, users need to install the DVM Studio and associated JDBC and ODBC drivers.
According to RBC protocols, employee laptops are locked down restricting software installations to Administrators only.
Software can be made available for download and installation from an internal Software Centre however the internal process to get the software tested and approved is time-consuming and labour-intensive. It involves:
- acquiring a Virtual Machine for testing
- recording the process to download and install software, providing silent switches for installation/uninstallation
- submitting the recorded process for approval
The above process must be repeated with each change to the software. We are required to ensure software currency meaning we regularly apply maintenance and upgrade software. It is not uncommon for the DVM Studio and JDBC and ODBC drivers to be updated by monthly maintenance requiring monthly updates to software in our Software Centre.
It is very difficult to onboard new users to DVM because it is hard to make the DVM Studio available to new users.
After the latest IBM z/OS Explorer upgrade, users are unable to access DVM Studio using the Perspective option
