Hi,
I would like to ask for an interface/configuration to change/add IBM transliterator's transliteration rules.
The need:
We are repeatedly receiving minor customization requests from our clients for the IBM transliteration rules for different languages.
Here is an example of such a request we recently received from a client:
In Greek transliteration: Αλέκος Αλαβάνος is being transliterated to ALEKOS ALABANOS
The 4th letter "β" is transliterated to "B" instead of 'V'.
B is the ancient pronunciation vs "v" which is the Modern pronunciation
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_alphabet
ICU interface:
The ICU transliterations provide an interface to customize their internal rules:
https://unicode-org.github.io/icu/userguide/transforms/general/rules.html#script-transliterators
The request
We would like GNM to expose either an ibmgnr::xlit::NameTransliterator interface or a configuration that we load (e.g. exclude/include for rules) to customize the IBM transliterators.
This will allow us to override specific rules on our customer's sites.
We have such an interface for TAQs and it is very helpful.
Currently, such a change requires us to open an IBM ticket to ask for a change, get an IBM patch to the transliteration configuration, and release our server patch.
Configuration interface would allow more flexibility and efficiency in implementing similar small changes on site, without the need for a full-scale product release.
Note: We are currently using IBM GNR7 ifix005 hotfix 2.
Regards,
Arik

We have multiple customers complaining about issues related to transliteration. Instead of opening a support case, this will allow tailoring the solution per customer and handled via configuration.
