In a case submitted to IBM: TS008741229 my team discovered that due to the design of Planning Analytics in terms of how it stores values (IEEE-754 Floating Point Double format) we came across scenarios where PA would not round correctly and hence reconciliations performed between external systems and Planning Analytic. Example:
Calculation: (172 + 439.05)/2 and then rounded to 2 decimal places. Answer should be 305.53, PA arrives 305.52.
Steps:
Round(172 + 439.05)/2,2)
= Round (611.05/2,2)
= Round (305.525,2)
=305.53
However the PA system calculates 305.52.
IBM suggested a work around where the value is first multiplied by 100, then rounded and then divided by 100, and this workaround does work, but highlights that we have an issue not arriving at the correct result in the first place.
