add embedded tables and columns comments functinality Merged

Many competitor DBMS already have this functionality of documenting tables and table columns, that is putting ad hoc comments to describe the table and or the columns.

Informix does not have this possibility which is great nevertheless

table and columns documentation could be displayed either with a specific option of dbschema, or any other tool accessible with SQL statements

This would be really handy. We have been looking around for a tool to document the database without much success (most are too expensive), and many of them keep the info separate from the database, so builtin comments would be much nicer. With over 1400 tables in our main database, and very little use of referencial integrity, it would be awesome to know where a column is linking to, if it has 1 char flag values then to know what they mean, why something is done a certain way... the list goes on for why it would help us. Currently, when a developer is stumped by an obscure table we have to search the code base to find out what possible values are, etc.
