Perform update statistics based on selected Fragments of a table

This idea is to run update statistics based on selected fragment(s) to refresh table update statistics on latest or selective fragments only. As there are considerable number of fragmented transactional tables are located under current databases this would help to reduce the total time taken to refresh update statistics choosing either the user specified or relevent data change partitions only in certain fragmentation stratergies (Ofcourse, other than Round Robin fragmentation stratergy).

E.g: If the intended table partition criteria is interval based fragmentation mechanism, most of the partition data are static and located under considerable number of such fragments and only one (or very few) number of partitions would be having new or recent data changes or additions.

However, with the current implementation, full refresh of update statistics operation still takes considerable time to be completed in such bigger tables, as it needs to be gone through all the fragments of the table to evaluate and complete the real update statistics operation. If the corresponding underline indexes are also fragmented based on the selected fragmented data column, can Informix provide a way to do update statistics only for latest or selected fragment(s) to cut down this total update statistics execution time on such implemented tables?
