Allow renaming a database when BTS Index is defined

When renaming a database that has a BTS (Basic Text Search) index defined, it fails with error -9874.

In the documentation it reads:

[...]

The RENAME DATABASE statement fails with error -9874, however, if the specified database contains any of the following objects:

  • a virtual table

  • a virtual index

  • an R-tree index

  • a DataBlade that references the current name of the database in a user-defined primary access method or in a user-defined secondary access method.

[...]

https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/informix-servers/14.10?topic=statements-rename-database-statement#ids_sqs_0940

BTS is a datablade and requires access methods of the above kind.

So, in order to rename the database, you have to drop the indexes, do the rename, and re-create the indexes once again.

However, this may pose a challenge if done on a regular basis and is quite odd, see below. We ask for a change of this situation.

  • You have to script everything (determine the indexes plus schema to re-create them later)

  • Creating an index may require a great ammount of time, depending on many factors, leading to a possible longer downtime than without the index

  • An operation that was very simple before now has become more complex

  • Blocking situations may occur under circumstances that are yet to be fully determined and are being revised in an IBM case.

Allowing to rename a database when BTS Index is defined is business critical for us, as we copy our production database into the testing environment on a daily basis, thereby renaming the old one.
