session setting to make an index invisible just for the current session

It would be useful to have a session setting that makes an index INVISIBLE for the current session only as well as a session setting to reverse that and make an index VISIBLE for the session. The latter might only work to reverse session level invisibility or it might reverse permanent invisibility but only for the current session. Examples:

SET SESSION INDEX index_name INVISIBLE;

SET SESSION INDEX index_name VISIBLE;

Purpose: This would allow testing the necessity of indexes on a production server without affecting production activity. Similarly, it would allow for making an index invisible to a single report or bulk process, again, without affecting other activity on the server.

    Karen: No, that SET ENVIRONMENT USE_INVISIBLE only forces the optimizer to use an INVISIBLE index. It does not cause a VISIBLE index to be treated as if it were INVISIBLE for the current session! That's different, though it does cover the "it might reverse permanent invisibility but only for the current session" part of my comments. This RFE would perhaps add:
    SET ENVIRONMENT IGNORE_VISIBLE_INDEXES "TRUE"; or
    SET ENVIRONMENT USE_VISIBLE_INDEXES "FALSE";

    Does this functionality (invisible index only per single session) really exists in Informix Server 15.0 ?
