DataStage or Cloud Pak for Data does not support IAM role-based access to the S3 bucket

The current version of DataStage or Cloud Pak for Data does not support IAM role-based access to the S3 bucket. Due to security constraints, instead of using an access key/secret key, it would be ideal if the S3 connector allowed the use of IAM roles alone while also following standard security guidelines. Is it possible to add IAM role support in the AWS S3 connector?

These are the possible options that support the current datastage AWS S3 connector

Credentials

The combination of Access key and Secret key is the minimum credentials.

If the Amazon S3 account owner has set up temporary credentials or a Role ARN (Amazon Resource Name), enter the values provided by the Amazon S3 account owner for the applicable authentication combination:

  • Access key, Secret key, and Session token
  • Access key, Secret key, Role ARN, Role session name, and optional Duration seconds
  • Access key, Secret key, Role ARN, Role session name, External ID, and optional Duration seconds
