Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Allow Bufferpool Min_lru_dirty and Max_lru_dirty Threshold values to be altered dynamically

onparams -b can be used to add a new bufferpool and AUTO_LRU_TUNING are available on informix server but first only adds a bufferpool of a new page size and the latter only kicks in if some foreground writes occur on a server which ideally is never.

Sometimes depending on workload the min and max thresholds need to be altered or they no longer suit and need to be refined. This occasionally takes a number of attempts to tune correctly. After setting them you also need to wait until a reasonable workload is going through server so bufferpool is caching as expected and only then will you know if values are suitable. On a high throughput system its not practical to take continual outages to fine tune these.

If auto_tune can change number of lrus, min and max dynamically then it should be technically possible to alter onparams -b for added functionality to tune the values for a specific bufferpool page size. Using it for just adding a new bufferpool size is f minimal benefit.

    Hi Ian, could you elaborate a bit on this issue? What is the context/use-case, and this is an issue you're facing on Informix server, right?
