IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Make a FastTrack a tool suitable for designing and documenting ETL mapping

The InfoSphere tool suite is missing a piece.
It is a great tool to govern you data warehouse using IGC with the business glossary, data lineage viewer among the highlights and it is a great tool to create the ETL flows in.

What about the inbetween? The design and documentation of how the ETL must transform the source data to the target table.

You can use FastTrack but the tool is designed for autogenerating ETL based on input and therefore not created with design and documentation as such in mind. FastTrack can only operate on data resource metadata which basically means you need a physical table before you can begin designing your ETL flow. That is not best practise software development life cycle for an ETL flow.

The suggestion is to have a tool where you can specify your mapping based on a model in IDA, so the ETL design can build on the modelling done by the data modellers. The documentation produced by the tool must be importable by the IGC tool and display as part of the lineage as the mapping projects is done today.
