No‑Operation Detection, Warning, and Auto‑Termination

In concurrent‑license environments, many users leave SPSS Modeler Client open without performing any actual operations. This results in long periods during which a license remains occupied even though the user is not actively using the application. This issue frequently leads to license shortages and impacts overall system usability.

To address this, we propose adding a no‑operation detection mechanism that can trigger a warning or automatically close Modeler Client based on administrator‑defined conditions.

■ Definition of “no operation”

“No operation” refers specifically to the absence of real actions within Modeler, such as:

  • Running streams
  • Editing nodes
  • Accessing data
  • Modifying flows
  • Saving files

In other words, it should detect lack of Modeler‑specific operations, not simply UI focus or general system idleness.

■ Independent settings for warning and auto‑termination

The following two settings must be completely independent parameters:

  1. No‑operation duration before issuing a warning (Warning Timer)
  2. No‑operation duration before terminating the client (Termination Timer)
  • Each can be turned ON/OFF independently
  • Either one can be enabled without the other
  • No ordering constraint is required (e.g., warning does not need to occur first)
  • These are not “modes,” but fully separate configuration items

■ Administrator‑only, non‑GUI configuration

To prevent end users from modifying or bypassing the settings:

  • Do not expose these options in the GUI
  • The configuration should be accessible only to administrators
  • Implementation via configuration files, environment variables, or similar mechanisms is acceptable
  • This allows organizations to enforce their license‑usage policies consistently

■ Functional behavior

  • When the Warning Timer threshold is reached → display a warning message
  • When the Termination Timer threshold is reached → automatically shut down Modeler Client
  • Normal shutdown processing will release the concurrent license automatically
