IMPLEMENT COMPATIBILITY AND SUPPORT FOR THE INSTALLED TOOL IN VM ENVIRONMENTS ON OPENSHIFT

We would like to propose an enhancement to improve IBM SPSS Modeler’s compatibility with modern containerized environments, particularly OpenShift-based infrastructures.

Currently, when running Modeler 18.6 in this type of environment, the export to .xlsx format does not function as expected. Although the process completes without errors, the generated file is empty (0 KB). Other formats such as .csv and .xls work correctly under the same conditions, and .xlsx export also works in traditional environments such as physical machines or standard virtual machines.

This behavior highlights a gap in compatibility that appears to be linked to environmental dependencies, possibly requiring external components such as Microsoft Excel libraries, which are typically not present or viable in containerized or cloud-native deployments. As organizations increasingly migrate their infrastructure to platforms like OpenShift and Kubernetes, this limitation becomes a significant constraint for adopting SPSS Modeler in these architectures.

We suggest enhancing the product to support native .xlsx generation that is independent of desktop-based dependencies, enabling consistent behavior across both traditional and containerized environments. Additionally, it would be valuable to officially support and certify Modeler operation in OpenShift or similar platforms, ensuring that core functionalities such as data export are fully operational in these contexts.

Implementing this capability would help organizations continue their transition to modern infrastructure models without losing key functionality and would position SPSS Modeler as a more flexible and cloud-ready solution aligned with current enterprise needs.
