IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

in IPM 12, only specific ports should be requested to open at client firewall instead of complete range from 1025 - 65536 port range open for network traffic

The IBM WebSphere application team analysis revealed that some of the ports or TCP/UCP connections are being blocked, resulting in a page loading issue for the Product Master application.

To resolve this issue, opening a specific list of ports between two cluster nodes only.

However, even after opening all the required ports, we can still see that the Product Master application is unable to load some of the pages of both nodes. Unilever Network Control allows only specific defined set of ports to be open between 2 nodes.

IBM product has used the Ehcache framework for its caching since near product inception. This framework has not changed between MDMCS v11.6 and IPM v12. Network traffic containing firewall rulesets blocking IPM ports used by the Ehcache framework can hinder the performance and have unintended behavior. This Ehcache framework uses a potential 1025 - 65536 port range for listening ports available for cache operations remotely through RMI. The expected behavior is that this Ehcache framework dynamically allocates IPM object cache via the port range and such TCP ephemeral ports can be selected. Thus, it is expected that you have 1025 - 65536 port range open for network traffic.
