Enhance the Value of Catalog Views

Currently, the implementation of Catalog Views in IBM Product Master does not appear to provide significant business value. While it allows the creation of multiple views, access to these views cannot be controlled based on user roles. As a result, having multiple catalog views does not effectively improve usability or governance.

At present, the primary benefit of catalog views is limited to reducing the number of attributes displayed in the UI. However, this alone does not deliver substantial business value for customers.

One potential enhancement would be to associate Catalog Views with user roles. If catalog views could be mapped to specific roles, customers would be able to create role-specific views tailored to different business teams, such as merchandising, supply chain, or data governance

This capability would provide several benefits:

  • Allow customers to restrict visibility of attributes based on roles
  • Enable simplified and cleaner user interfaces for different business functions
  • Reduce the need for custom UI development and additional customization
  • Improve data governance and usability

By enabling role-based catalog views, customers could configure their environment more efficiently and significantly reduce customization costs, while improving the overall user experience.

This enhancement could greatly increase the practical value of catalog views for many implementations.
