Proper check for invalid characters in setEntryAttrib method

MDMCE 11.5.0 - APIs and Scripting

Since v10.x the item data is saved in the ITX table as XML. One of the consequences is that certain characters that are invalid for use inside XML structures produce exceptions (--> "com.ibm.db2.jcc.am.SqlDataException: DB2 SQL Error: SQLCODE=-16103, SQLSTATE=2200M, SQLERRMC=null, DRIVER=3.69.49" ...) in the database when trying to use them. This issue happened for a lot of items during the migration from v9.1 to v11.5 and is documented for the migration:

The platform should check the validity of the used string - and maybe even remedy (e.g. by removing the invalid characters) - when the corresponding setter method is called, e.g. item.setEntryAttrib(), and not just throwing a fairly generic database exception when the item save is attempted.
