Support for Podman based runtime for launching IBM Infosphere MDM AE Container images

Infosphere MDM container images are pulled from IBM container registry (us.icr.io) using the Docker Compose Yaml files released by IBM for each versions of MDM AE images.

Ford Motor Company currently has Redhat Openshift container platform v3.11 as its container orchestrator. In order to containerize application and build images there is a developer environment called "localdev" provided in the form of single node Openshift cluster based on Vagrant and Oracle Virtual Box tools.

There is no in-built support for Docker compose in Openshift however docker compose can be installed on the localdev envionment. But, using the docker compose is resulting in authentication error while pulling images from IBM Container registry. Further Openshift v4 wont have Docker runtime and will be expected to use Openshift native Podman tool to run multi-container application.

Hence it will be helpful to provide a way to launch MDM installable image using Podman based Yaml files for configuring the image  before deploying on the target namespace of Openshift. It is better to migrate the current docker compose yaml file released with the MDM container images and use a separate shell script to run them using Podman instead of docker compose.

HI Priya, as noted in my initial comment above, this has been added to the roadmap. You can access the link in the comments or at ibm.biz/MDMRoadmap. You will see that Podman support has been added for delivery in 3Q20 as part of our next feature pack release.
