Ability to View the User Who Checked Out the File in Task and Grid Views

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

In a collaborative environment, where multiple users are working on the same file, knowing who is actively working on or has "checked out" a file is crucial for effective teamwork and coordination. Here's an elaboration on why tracking this information is important:

Current Situation:

At present, the file management only provide basic metadata such as the timestamp of the last modification and the user who made the change. This allows us to see:

  1. When the file was last modified
  2. Who made the most recent modification

However, this data is often limited in its scope because it doesn’t indicate who is currently engaged with the file at the moment. This becomes especially relevant in collaborative settings where multiple users can have access to the same file simultaneously or consecutively, and coordination between these users is essential to avoid conflicts or mistakes.

The implementation of this functionality should show the following details:

  • User Identification: Display the username of the individual who has the file checked out.
  • Timestamp of Checkout: Show when the file was checked out or locked for editing. This helps users understand how long the file has been unavailable.
  • Checkout Duration (optional): If possible, track and display how long the file has been checked out. This can help set expectations for when the file might be available again.

By showing these details, users will have real-time awareness of who is interacting with the file, improving collaboration and minimizing the chances of overlap, errors, or confusion.
