The same issue we have with decimal numbers when we ask about timeframe and the only option is to provide a bunch of single choice answers (but you can imagine, there can be thousands of values) plus the Other option, but we can not restrict from adding any text into the free text box until the workflow with calculation validates the value of free text. Voting for this idea.
Unfortunately there is currently no way to build a rule that would only accept numbers
Currently the only way to capture such a value is to have a string field (which will not enforce the rule for number only).
Any sopecific use case? how many of these fields were you looking to have?
