Data Move Wizard

Provide a capability that will allow users to move objects and children objects from one business entity to another without needing to move each object individually.
Users will have the ability to :
o Filter for objects to move
o Select one or many parent objects to move
o Nominate whether child objects should be moved with the parent object based on the primary parent path. Users will be presented with options to either (i) move all child objects in primary parent path from to the target folder or (ii) select objects to move.
o Where the object being moved has a primary association to a business entity, the object is disassociated from the current entity and associated to the target entity as the primary business entity. All other associations will be maintained.
o Where any object being moved is locked, the system will automatically unlock the record before moving and relock it after the move is complete.

    Hi Team,

The Move Function in v8.3 appears to still have limitations – e.g. not moving children (even though the framework looks to be present) and not updating associations of moved objects .

What is good is the expandable and selectable tree that pops up when you select an object for Move. It seems this feature already has a good foundation in place now for moving objects BELOW the business entity object.

    Additional requirements

    1. The MOVE feature should not require the end user to have any delete permissions

    2. It would be great for this feature to offer a COPY option in addition to the MOVE - in this case delete permissions are not required.

I have been working with OpenPages for over 10 years now, and the MOVE feature has consistently been at the top of the RFE list.

It seems it has always been bypassed by IBM because it is a SYSADMIN task, however more and more OP clients would like their end users to be able to MOVE data themselves rather than having to raise an IT Service/Support ticket. Agree this is only relevant for those organisations that do not allow end users to delete data because of the unintended consequences that can occur - but this is not uncommon.

With the advances we have seen in OP over the last couple of years, I believe the development of this RFE must be so much more achievable and so there should be no reason for it to be bypassed any longer.

    :-) thank you

    Hi Guys,
Could we also consider some kind of Filter Settings on this Wizard?

The idea is to avoid Users to move huge quantity of data and impact the entire application.
I was wondering in Filters by Entity/Level or by Object per Profile?

RBS have implemented a services based bulk move tool which would be worth reviewing when looking at the functionality required to perform data moves.  The move should also include File/Link objects.  I'd prefer the option to add and remove associations separately to the move/refolder as in some instances we only want to re-folder - even if the object  has a primary relationship back to a business entity.
