Hi John,
while I am not the original requester, please let me try to give some context on this idea as we are seeing this request/enhancement from our customers as well.
Having a Grid View that displays quite a few fields is not an issue on a large screen (see attached screenshot 01_large screen.png).
But on a small (laptop) screen you are not able to see all columns anymore (see attached screenshot 01_small screen.png). In this case a user would have to scroll to the right somehow to see the "hidden" columns. To do so, a user currently has to scroll down to the bottom of the Grid View table and use the scrollbar shown there (see attached screenshot 03_horizontal scrollbar.png).
The request for a "floating scrollbar" basically means that the horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the table should always be visible at the bottom of the page when necessary due to the screen size (see attached screenshot 04_mockup.png).
In addition it would be helpful to highlight the selected records in a Grid View with a slightly different background color (see attached screenshot 05_highlighting mockup.png). Currently the information which of the rows/records have been selected gets lost when a user has to scroll to right, to display "hidden" columns on a smaller screen.
IBM had previously requested more clarifying information. Because the additional information was not provided within 30 days, the request has been closed.
Hi Will,
Thanks again for submitting this Idea!
We are reviewing your submission and would like to get a better understanding of what you mean by "Floating Columns". Please provide clarifying details via text, mockups, etc.
Thanks!
