Create a numerical drop down field.

Can we create the ability to have a enumerated field where the options are considered a number? This causes us issues where we use the chart functionality on the dashboard or try to sort on Cognos as the numbers are stored as text. We would like to create a calculation where we would flag where a particular field has been noted as lower than another field but would be unable to do this as the text is not recognised as a number.
